In The Key of C

On any July or August Friday at Kate Gould Park, just off Main Street, passersby can witness a growing patchwork of quilts. It is tradition dating back decades.

Around 8 PM, as blue-bird skies make way for dusky hues, “It’s band Time in Chatham” heralds the assembled crowd of locals and visitors, and another Chatham Band concert is underway.

Since the 1930’s the town’s band has gathered each week on Fridays throughout the summer to provide hours of rollicking entertainment.

At their new home (since 1946 that is) from the gazebo in Kate Gould Park, now named for the longtime band leader Whit Tileston, the 40-piece band engages and entertains young and old alike.
